Funeral services for Donald Lee “Don” Seahorn, 74, of Gilmer, will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, August 12, 2022, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with President Jeff Sant Presiding and Bishop Dennis Means conducting. Interment will follow at the Kelsey Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Thursday, at McWhorter Funeral Home. Don was born June 29, 1948, to Howard Larkin and Ora Agnas Welch Seahorn in Gilmer, Texas and passed from this life August 9, 2022. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Martha Seahorn; children, Michael Seahorn (Cindy), Karen Seahorn, Robin Seahorn (Sheri), Shane Seahorn (Mandy), Lance Seahorn (Sarah), Allicia Settles (Michael), and Jeremy Seahorn (Darcy); sister, Nancy Seahorn Kerlick; grandchildren, Ashley- ”George,” Colby-”Spud” (Lainey), Mikalee- “Two Bits,” Keirsten- “Buttons,” McKinna- “Bubbles,” Katelyn Grace-“Perch,” Kylie- ”Sprout,” Sawyer- “Stump,” Kelbie- “Squirt,” Spencer- “Spinner,” Marlee- “Sparkles,” Dallin- “Speck,” Weston- “Sparky,” Mikaelyn- “Twinkles,” Michael Dee- “Spike,” Mckinzee- “Twiggy,” Jenci-“Ribbons,” Boston- “Spanky,” and Rendi- “Cookie;” and great grandchildren, Preslie- “Buckets,” Cason- “Tubbs,” Stetson- “Tator,” Jayci- “Hoot,” Graci-"Holler,” and Kynlee- “Butters.” The fifth of seven children Don grew up in a family where he learned there was no substitute for hard work. Following his graduation from Harmony High he married his sweetheart, Mary Martha Lindsey, and went to work at Letourneau Inc. and then Trailmobile in Longview, Texas. He would finally settle on a career in the oil and gas drilling industry. From roughneck to rig manager Don dedicated 40 years of hard work and dedication to Delta Drilling, Nabors Drilling, and finally to Scandrill Inc. As a man of few words he was best known for coining such short phrases in times of excitement as “Ain’t that something,” or “that’s just cute, real cute,” or “how about them genes.” Don worked hard his whole life and possessed many talents and abilities. He was an athlete, a builder, an inventor, and of course a master when it comes to engineering quick-fixes. Don loved to hunt, fish, and simply enjoy the outdoors. He loved to experience long drives down less traveled roads. But most of all he loved his family. He enjoyed his time with them along with their pets and that is where his heart was the most content. He enjoyed watching his posterity in their many athletic competitions and whose talent he claimed was derived directly from Papa’s genes. He is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Charles, Buster, Marvin, Billy, and Gerald. Pallbearers are Michael Seahorn, Robin Seahorn, Shane Seahorn, Lance Seahorn, Jeremy Seahorn, Colby Seahorn, Spencer Seahorn, Michael Dee Settles Jr. and Michael Settles Sr. Honorary Pallbearers are Dallin Seahorn, Boston Seahorn, Weston Seahorn, Sawyer Seahorn, Cason Seahorn, and Stetson Seahorn.
