Edith Merle Edwards Lawson

We’ve lost another valuable citizen from our community, Edith Merle Lawson, born August 2nd, 1947, in Ketchikan Alaska. She unfortunately left us on May 9th, 2024. Graveside services for Edith Merle Edwards Lawson, 76, of Holly Lake Ranch, will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Mattox Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 pm- 8:00 pm, Monday, at McWhorter Funeral Home. Edith was preceded in death by her father, Darrell Darwin Edwards; mother, Louise Campbell Edwards; husband, Jerry Lawson; son, Robert Daily Jr of Galveston; son-in-law, Anthony Lawson of Canada; and a grandson, John Scott Daily. Edie was Coast Guard certified to load and unload all bulk liquids including LPG’s. She was also in the art field ranging from various art leagues from Galveston to Upshur County. She worked as a volunteer firefighter for 8 years. She was involved deeply in the antique community, and she very much loved to garden. Edith left behind three siblings. Two wonderful brothers; Charlie Edwards and Alfred Edwards (aka Sonny Boy); and a beautiful sister, Nora Edwards. She also left behind a loving family tree of her own: Deborah Calderon and her three boys’ families, Chris Calderon; his wife, Paige; and their children, Liam and Logan; Jesse Calderon; his wife, Courtney; and their children, Zane and Zoey; Kacey Calderon and his daughter, Bailey. Her firstborn son, John Robert Daily Jr’s surviving children: Mark, Tony, Brielle, and Teralin; her youngest son, Charles [Dee Boy] Daily; his wife, Layla; and their children Trista, Zac, Aleah, Col, and Tia. Edith was from a very extended family including natural family, foster family, adopted family, and those who call her grandma. She was from a very spiritual family that kept her going through the Jehovah Witness Organization in Holly Lake Ranch Congregation. She was the type of person who did not believe in throwing anybody away - but in finding the best in them. Edith never knew whose shoes would be under her kitchen table and always welcomed surprise visits. She is looking forward to seeing her loved ones in the resurrection. One of her favorite verses was Philippians 4:4-13 Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Calderon, Liam Calderon, Jesse Calderon, Zane Smith-Calderon, Kacey Calderon, Mark Daily, Tony Daily, Zac Moore, Col Stevens, and Chase Wood. The family has gone through Mandy with Golden Crown Floral in Gladewater for their floral arrangements and would recommend that if anybody orders flowers, they request through them.
