Elizabeth Garmon

Funeral services for Maggie Katy Elizabeth (Liz) Garmon, 94, of Gilmer, Texas, will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at McWhorter Funeral Home, with Mike White, Clay Steelman, Morris Garmon, Jr. and Brandon Garmon officiating. Burial will follow at Gilmer City Cemetery. Visitation will begin thirty minutes prior to the service. She was born on April 5, 1931, to Ballard (Bill) Smith and Flossie Mae Smith at Clarksville, Texas, and passed from this life on May 15, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. She was a Christian and grew up in the Baptist Church. She married Morris William (Buddy) Garmon, Sr. on May 7, 1948, in Clarksville, Texas. They were married for 57 years, until Buddy passed away on February 14, 2005. For the first 40 + years of her life she was an Air Force wife, Mother and homemaker. When her youngest child started school, Liz began working at the Ford Nursing Home (now Gilmer Care Center), her first and only job outside her home, and worked there for the next 30 + years before retiring. Those left to cherish her memory are children, Morris W. Garmon, Jr.; Peggy Sue Garmon, and Walter C. Garmon (Cyndi); her seven (7) grandchildren, Walter D. (Wally) Garmon; Brandon Garmon (Kim); Kami Garmon Whitworth (Richie); Rebecca (Becca) Garmon Steelman (Clay); Jessie Garmon; Cody Garmon (Savannah); and Austen Garmon (Manny); and her nine (9) great grandchildren: Thomas Whitworth; Carter Garmon; Savannah Steelman; Jase Steelman; Caroline Elizabeth Garmon; Lyric Garmon; Blakeleigh Garmon; Atticus Garmon, and Ezra Garmon; daughters-in-law, Genny Garmon and Barbara Wright; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three children: Robert Randal Garmon (died at birth); Mark Anthony (Tony) Garmon; and Teresa Ann Garmon. Liz was the only surviving child of 8 children, being preceded in death by her father and mother, her brothers, Shelby Smith and Thomas Smith, and her sisters, Lucille Goff, Ida Jane Couch, Marie Belcher, Georgia Reed, and Gladys Inez Smith. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Wally Garmon, Brandon Garmon, Cody Garmon, and grandsons in-law, Clay Steelman, Richie Whitworth, and Manny Gonzalez.
