Ellis E. Loden

Ellis Eugene Loden, born on October 28, 1943, in Gladewater, Texas, to H.G. "Sam" Loden and Myrtle Gertrude Loden, embarked on his eternal journey on November 12, 2023. He leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy of love, devotion, and an unwavering faith in the Lord. Ellis was a devoted husband to Rose Maxine Dacus, whom he married on November 18, 1964. Their union was a testament to love's enduring power, a bond that remained unbroken for nearly six decades. Together, they created a life filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures. For 43 years, Ellis dedicated his professional life to Upshur Rural Electric, where he served as a lineman/serviceman. His dedication to his work was only surpassed by his passion for connecting with the community and his customers. He enjoyed the opportunity to work outdoors, cherishing the beauty of nature in the course of his duties. When not on the job, Ellis found joy in various hobbies and activities. He also played baseball, and he spent years as a member of a bowling league. His family shared in his love of the outdoors as they embarked on hunting excursions together, forging bonds that would last a lifetime. Ellis’ faith in the Lord was unwavering, and he was a devoted Christian. He was a member of New Beginnings Baptist Church in Gilmer, where he found strength, community, and purpose in his spiritual journey. In his leisure time, Ellis had a passion for hunting arrowheads and collecting coins, hobbies that allowed him to appreciate history and artistry. Alongside his beloved wife, he enjoyed countless vacations at the Waunita Hot Springs Ranch in Colorado, creating cherished memories amidst the stunning landscapes of the Rocky Mountains. Ellis was a loving husband, dedicated father, doting grandfather, loyal friend, and devout Christian. His zest for life, love for family, and unwavering faith have left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be remembered for his warm smile, strong work ethic, and a passion for the outdoors. As we bid farewell to Ellis, we find comfort in the knowledge that his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved and admired him. In addition to his cherished memories and the profound impact he left on the world, Ellis is survived by a loving and devoted family. He is survived by his wife, Maxine, with whom he shared a love that stood the test of time, a testament to their enduring bond. Ellis leaves behind three daughters, each of whom he cherished and nurtured with a father's love and guidance: Angie Bickle (Todd) of Fate, TX, Melissa Harty (Bubba) of Gilmer, TX, and Patricia McGarity (Wayne) of Kilgore, TX. Their lives were enriched by his presence, and they will forever carry his legacy in their hearts. Ellis was a loving and proud grandfather to a precious group of grandchildren who were the apples of his eye: Hollis Lucas, James Lucas (Michelle), Bradley Lucas (Lacey), Sydney Harty, Wesley McGarity, and six great-grandkids. His love and influence will continue to shape their lives, as they remember their beloved grandfather with fondness and admiration. He is also survived by three sisters and two sisters-in-law, who shared in his joys, sorrows, and family bonds: Reba Morgan, Laretta Hibner (Chuck), Glenda Gage (James), Gwen Prothro, and Fay Colley. The strength of their sibling connection was a source of support and comfort throughout their lives. While Ellis's journey on this earth has come to an end, his memory will endure through the love, respect, and cherished moments he leaves behind. He is preceded in death by his parents, H.G. "Sam" and Myrtle Loden, and his sisters Vaudine Suggs and Judy Nickelbur, as well as brothers Albert Loden and Bert Loden. Their spirits may have departed this world, but their memories live on in the hearts of those who loved them. The family would also like to express a special thanks to his caregivers: Heart to Heart Hospice of Longview, Shirlen Spencer, Melba Moore, Janet Stone, and Makia Peyton. The funeral service will be held at McWhorter Funeral Home on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 10:00 am. There will be a visitation at the same location from 6 to 8 on Friday, November 17, 2023.
