Georgia Ann James Duke

Funeral services for Georgia Ann James Duke will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, December 22, 2025, in the Chapel of McWhorter Funeral Home with Brother Charles Johnson officiating. Private interment will follow at Little Mound Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm prior to the service. Georgia Ann James Duke was born on September 23, 1935, in Gilmer, Texas, to Washington Sherman James and Nettie Lou Langford James. A bright and dedicated student, she graduated as Valedictorian of Harmony High School. Georgia went on to build a long and respected career at Gilmer National Bank, where she faithfully served her community for more than 20 years. She passed from this earth and went to be with her heavenly Father on December 13, 2025. Georgia’s life was deeply rooted in faith, family, and music. She was an active member of Little Mound Baptist Church, where she sang in “The Little Mound Quartet". Her love for gospel music led her to join “The Harmonettes,” a beloved group that traveled throughout the East Texas area, sharing joy and inspiration through song. In her later years, Georgia became a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Gilmer, where she continued to share her musical gifts by singing in the senior choir. She cherished her Sunday School class and the fellowship it brought. Georgia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose gentle spirit and kindness touched everyone who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Wayne Duke; her father, Washington Sherman James; her mother, Nettie Lou Langford James; her sister, Peggy Nell James; and her brother, Thedward Duane James. She is survived by her son, Randy Duke, and his wife, Brenda, of Gilmer; her grandchildren, Brandon Duke and his wife, Ann, of Atlanta, Georgia; Britt Duke and his wife, Holly, of Waco, Texas; and Bryce Duke and his wife, Brittney, of New Braunfels, Texas. She is lovingly remembered by her seven great-grandchildren. May her life, her love, and her song continue to echo in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Autumn House, Patricia Ray, and Chambers Home Health and Hospice. Pallbearers will be Brandon Duke, Britt Duke, Bryce Duke, Henry Duke, Ted James, Rick James, and Pete Herrmann.
