Janice Ladonna Barksdale Erwin of Dallas was born on August 20, 1947, in Gilmer, Texas. She passed away in Dallas, TX on November 17, 2023, at age 76. She is survived by her children: Roger (Glenda) Erwin of Freeport, Dawn (Bob) of Utah, Cheryl (Michael) Ganschow of Grapevine, Crystal (Chad) Pinson of Dallas, Daniel (Lindsey) Erwin of The Woodlands. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren: Erin (Vincent) Tyl, Skyler (Tasha), Chelsea (Shawna), Brayden (AJ), Madeline (Charles) Crofts, Andrew Ganschow, Annalise Pinson, Asher Pinson, Primo Pinson, Holt Erwin, Griffin Erwin, Rory, & Matilda. Janice is survived by her brothers and brother-in-law: Nelson and (Stefani) Barksdale, Greg and (Theresa) Barksdale, and (Larry) Johnson. She is also survived by her sisters Sharon Connor and Laree and (Russ) Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arley and Viola Barksdale of Longview, her sister, Susie Johnson, and her son Robert (Bob) Erwin. Funeral services for Janice Erwin will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, November 20, 2023, at McWhorter Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Enoch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm, prior to the service. Janice was a real gem, measured not by facts or titles, but by her love for life and adventure, a heart for others, a strong work ethic, and a contagious sense of humor. She was a master of the kitchen, always on the hunt for new recipes from top restaurants. Her sewing machine was her magic wand, creating stunning clothes and quilts from beautiful fabrics. She was a history buff and a lover of the arts, taking her children to exhibits, museums, gardens, trips to Europe and Broadway shows. Janice's work ethic was nothing short of remarkable. As a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served and contributed to her community in many ways. She lived out her beliefs and values in all that she did. In her forties, she returned to university earning not one, but two degrees while raising her younger three kids. She went on to teach English Literature at Kilgore College and was known for going above and beyond for her students. Her economical ways and resourcefulness were inspiring, finding new purposes for old things. Despite the challenges of raising a family of six and moving over 17 times, she always had a heart for others. She was the ultimate grandma, always ready to entertain her grandkids with games and crafts. Her superpower was her ability to make everyone feel special, something that will be missed by all who knew her.
