Virginia Maxine Ward Denton

Funeral Services for Virginia Maxine Ward Denton, 80 of Gilmer, Texas, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 21, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with Bishop Adam Marion conducting. Interment will follow at Kelsey Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday at McWhorter Funeral Home. Virginia was born September 14, 1944, in Gilmer, Texas, to Herman Arleigh Ward and Edith Ozell Harris Ward and returned to her heavenly home June 17, 2025. She married her high school sweetheart, Michael “Micky” Denton, on November 28, 1963, in Gilmer, Texas. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Mesa, Arizona Temple, February 24, 1966. Virginia was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She grew up in Kelsey and graduated from Harmony High School. Virginia dedicated her life to serving others, including her family, community, and her church family. She held many church callings in scouts, primary, and as the compassionate service leader. Virginia loved genealogy, gardening, journaling, garage sales, and spending time with her family. Virginia was passionate about any task she took on and wanted it to be as perfect as possible. Virginia’s love knew no bounds when it came to her children and that love was doubled for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Virginia always told her children as they were about to leave to go anywhere, "Remember who you are and act accordingly". As the years went on, she would say those same words to her grandchildren. We will remember, Mom (MeMe). Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Micky Denton; daughter, Angela Moore: son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Emily Denton; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Denton and Tami Denton Rasmussen; siblings, David Ward, Randy Ward, Elwyn Ward, Lana Smith, JoAnn McBride, Kevin Ward, and Fred Ward; Virginia cherished her 13 grandchildren, Blake Kramer, Tyler Denton, Mikenna Abplanalp, Breanne McCutcheon, Andrew Denton, Logan Denton, Charlee Moore, Christian Denton, Mercy Denton, Xavier Fluellen, Diamond Fluellen, Tra Fluellen, and Keira Parsons; and 13 great grandchildren, Arya Denton, Freyja Denton, Ehlora Denton, Maia Abplanalp, Denton Abplanalp, Deklin Abplanalp, Alana McCutcheon, Ridge McCutcheon, Wrenley McCutcheon, Alex Fluellen, Hendrix Fluellen, Xariya Fluellen, and A’nori Johnson. She is preceded in death by her parents, Herman Arleigh Ward and Edith Ozell Harris Ward ; sons, Chris Denton and Alan Denton; siblings, Harold Ward, Herman Ward, Judy White, Ocoho Ward, and Janice Davis. Pallbearers will be Matthew Denton, Christian Denton, Tyler Denton, Andrew Denton, Tra Fluellen, Xavier Fluellen, and Derek McCutcheon. Honorary Pallbearers will be Fred Ward, Kevin Ward, David Ward, Elwyn Ward, Randy Ward, Larry Smith, and Danny McBride.
