William T. "Sam" Dawson

William Tarrence Dawson , was born on April 28, 1933 in Gilmer, Texas to William T. & Avva Maurine Edgar Dawson. They affectionately called him "Sam." On January 22, 2018, he went peacefully into the next life, reuniting once again with them ,and many of his loved ones. Sam grew up in West Texas, where he learned at an early age to work hard on their family farm. He was known to all, as a Hard Working Man throughout his life. He was a member of the Marine Corp, stationed in Japan, in the Far East Command, serving in the Honor Guard. On January 5, 1956, he married Sharon Gayle Gavin in Mesa Arizona. She has been the love of his life for 62 years and together they raised 9 children who adore him. His Family was his most prized treasure. He was a lifelong member of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, and a loving husband, father ,grandfather, brother , son and friend. Sam had a happy, fun sense of humor, a nickname for everyone, and was always singing some little jingle he made up. He loved, hunting, Fishing, bowling, Chickens, family, music and a good sandwich. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, sisters, Beth Mckay(Arlis) and Renie Hood(Ray), brother, Donald Carol and precious daughter-in-law, Sandy Dixon Dawson. He is survived by his "Sweetheart" Sherry Dawson, his children, Dan Dawson (Robin), Tamee Hutchins(Mark), Ben Dawson (Amanda), Matt Dawson, Carol Johnson (Craig), Shawn Dawson (Darcy), Sammy Dawson (Michelle), Dolly Soule', Candi Mcfadyen (Bobby), 29 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren with 3 more on the way, 2 brothers Blanton Dawson (Betty), Jimmy Dawson (Diane),and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Services will be held in Gilmer, at noon on January 27,2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1122 Pine St.) A viewing will be held the night before, on January 26, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at McWhorter Funeral Home (1074 State Hwy 300 Gilmer, TX). A Graveside service will be held at the Kelsey Cemetery following the funeral. The family would like to express their most sincere gratitude to all who came and took care of Dad.
