Norman Lavaughn Finch

Norman Lavaughn Finch, known as ‘Bubba’ to his family, was born July 13, 1938 in Gilmer, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents L.J. “Jay” and Florence Finch. He is survived by his faithful and dedicated wife of 63 years, Mable Finch. He also leaves to mourn Carrie Gentry, a dedicated and caring daughter; Maylea Andrews, an adored granddaughter; and Tru Serenity Haynes, a treasured great-granddaughter. Norman was educated in the Piedmont Elementary and Junior High School system and graduated from Valley View High School. Norman's education laid the foundation for a life of service and kindness. Norman served the Tyler Pipe community for over four decades before he retired, exemplifying a strong work ethic and integrity. He was also a passionate and skilled rancher in the Upshur County area. Norman accepted Christ at a young age and received baptism at Ours Chapel Church of Christ, later renamed Piedmont Church of Christ. This congregation not only served as his place of worship but also reflected his unwavering commitment to faith. Norman's deep love for the Bible and steadfast support of his church community were evident throughout his life. He remained a faithful member until he was called home. Norman leaves to mourn six beloved sisters: Willie Jones (Roland); Hazel Kirven; Shirley Finch; Nancy Moore (Nathaniel); Gracie Moss (Freddy Johnson); Janice Pratt (Timothy Thomas). He was preceded in death by his twin brothers, Johnnie Finch and Lonnie Finch. Norman had a host of nieces and nephews: Roland Jones, Jr., Dr. Michael Finch, James Kirven III, Felecia Galloway Davis (preceded him in death), Eustacia McCawley, Sogunda Strange, Lonnie Finch, Jr., Reginald Finch, Alex Hemphill (preceded him in death), Herbert Pratt III and Leonard Pratt. Norman had longstanding personal connections with the following individuals: Mattie Finch (aunt), Bro. James Hart, Jimmy and Ima Jones (sister and brother-in-law), Joyce Ann Ray (sister-in-law), and Jo Ann Hilburn. Visitation hours will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2024, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at McWhorter Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place on Monday, April 29, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Piedmont Church of Christ in Gilmer, Texas.
