Funeral services for Rickey Lyn Haddock Sr., 67, of Gilmer, Texas, will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, July 19, 2026, in the chapel of McWhorter Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Center Cemetery in Harleton, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Saturday. Rickey Lyn Haddock Sr. passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026. Known to many as Big Rickey, but to his family simply Pawpaw, he was a true cowboy at heart. He enjoyed the simpler things in life: his love for horses, especially his horse Scottie, a hot cup of coffee, a cold beer, and the sound of country music or an old western to fall asleep to. He loved the simple, honest rhythm of cowboy life—the quiet pride of a man who knew exactly who he was. Rickey was a man of few words. His often dry yet goofy humor and no-nonsense way of carrying himself told you everything you needed to know. To his family, he showed a softer side full of love, teasing, and laughter. He was always ready with a joke or one of his legendary tall tales—stories that grew bigger with every telling, yet were told with such conviction that no one could help but hang on every word. His voice, his wit, and the memories of sitting around listening to him spin a story will be treasured for years to come. More than anything, Rickey will be remembered for the way he lived with unmistakable cowboy spirit—steady, stubborn, loyal, and full of heart. He had a way of making ordinary moments feel memorable, whether he was sharing a laugh, telling a story, or offering one of his simple truths. “One last ride, cowboy,” as he liked to say. In his final days, Rickey found peace in accepting the Lord as his Savior. His family takes great comfort in knowing he now rests in heaven with the love of his life, Debbie, reunited in eternal peace. Though he will be deeply missed, his laughter, his stories, and his cowboy spirit will live on forever in the hearts of all who loved him. Rickey was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Abby; his wife, Debbie; his little brother, Terry; and his older sister, Jessie. He is survived by his beloved granddaughter, Haley Steiniger; his son, Rickey Jr.; his daughter, Jenny Garza; and his older brother, Herbert. Pawpaw Rickey was also blessed with grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will always remember his goofy grin, his playful teasing, and his legendary tall tales.
